My name is Ben. I am interested in tutoring German, Muay Thai and Public Speaking. I would like to go into detail into each of these respectfully:
German: I recently graduated from Juniata College with a major in Communication and a minor in German. I have visited Germany four times and studied for a year at Philipps Uni Marburg in Marburg, Germany. I have a firm understanding of German grammar and have been told by some native Germans that my American accent was undetectable. I can adjust to fit whatever your needs may be (tutoring you in a class you are already in, speaking to improve conversation or even just learning the basics). I have numerous books on German grammar and vocabulary, so I am well equipped to get you where you want to be. If you are planning a trip, I can also help you prepare for what to expect in Germany, how to save money, travel cheaply and converse in daily interactions.
Muay Thai: I have trained Muay Thai for over three years. I had three sparring events and one fight. I was the president of Juniata College's MMA club and taught the striking portion of the class. My strengths in Muay Thai are my kicks, but I am a well rounded fighter. I have plenty of equipment, extra gloves, Thai pads, shin protectors and even a few books on theory. Muay Thai is an excellent way to get in shape, sharpen your mind and increase your confidence. It is a very practical combat sport and I must say, has changed my life. I would be honored to pass on what I have learned from this ancient style to anyone who is willing to learn. I can teach just for fitness, for self defense (some sparring) or even for getting ready for the ring (conditioning, sparring and mental toughness). Muay Thai is for everyone, no matter your level of fitness or confidence. Whatever you want to learn from the sport, I am willing to teach. I prefer to break training sessions down into warm up, technique and theory, rounds and any additional training you would like. Again, this can be adjusted based on your preference and fitness level.
Public Speaking: As a Communication major, I studied public speaking and also had a course called "Message Analysis", which deals not only with speaking in front of others, but crafting your message to best be received by others. My professors describe my public speaking style as relaxed and conversational, which is great for speaking in front of others at the work place or in other small group settings. I break the process of public speaking down not only into the basic Intro-Body-Conclusion style, but also detailed preparation to make your message clear and powerful. I can also help your prepare PowerPoint slides and other visual aids. I can help you break bad habits during presentation and help reduce your nervousness. Whether you want to learn the basics of delivering speeches in class or want to bring a new dimension to your work life, I am more than willing to get you there.
As a teacher, I am very understanding, non-judgmental and patient. I prefer to work with you, establish your goals and structure tutoring sessions so that you will reach your goals as quickly and efficiently as possible, without taking shortcuts.
I love to teach and would be happy to work with anyone. If you are a parent and are looking for a tutor for you child, I can do that as well. Just inform me of their goals, and in the event of Muay Thai training, any medical conditions.
