I've been a professional photographer for 18 years specializing in advertising, portraiture and fine art. Starting out I worked as a wedding and portrait photographer along the "Main Line". Since then I moved into more commercial and advertising work. Some of my passed clients have included Wyeth Pharmaceutical, And1 Apparel and Synthes. Along with this, I spent 11 years as a photographer with Navy Combat Camera, Reserve.

I prefer to teach by having the student produce work, be it a personal project they've always wanted to complete or something that the student and I collaborate on. I believe a person learns much more by actively creating instead of watching someone else go through the motions.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

As a professional photographer for the past 15+ years, I have been learning and using Photoshop since its more humble beginnings. I say learning even now as the program continues to expand and innovate and I work at it continuously in order to stay up to date and hone my skills. I have been using Photoshop for my professional and personal work on almost a daily basis. Tutoring others in this program is something that I enjoy as well. Once I sit-down with a student, I like to first determine what it is (s)he wants to be able to accomplish and then devise a learning strategy based on that. One doesn’t need to learn some of the more technical aspects if you’re only looking to do basic editing or vise versa. You decide what direction the tutoring goes.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been quite involved with Windows going back to Windows 95. I was a beta tester for Office 2003 and offered some feedback prior to the release of that product including Outlook. Most of the various jobs I've had since the mid nineties relied heavily on Outlook and Word. If a student is looking to learn how the Windows Office environment works, how to navigate it and how to set-up their computer for ease of use, then I can help show them the way.

Microsoft Windows

While I am not certified in any particular Windows platform or language, I have been quite involved with Windows going back to Windows 95. I was a beta tester for Office 2003 and offered some feedback prior to the release of that product. If you're looking for help with coding or building a Windows based program, I am not at that level. If, however, you are looking to learn how the Windows environment works, how to navigate it and how to set-up your computer for ease of use, then I can help show you the way.

Photography

Photography has been my passion since I was a teenager. I've always enjoyed the creative and documentary aspects that can be achieved. This lead me, indirectly, to today where I have been working for the past 15 years as a commercial photographer creating imagery for various companies from "mom-and-pop" stores to fortune 500 companies. I've also worked for the past 11 years with the Navy Reserve as a member of their Combat Camera unit, documenting everyday life, exercises and operations in peacetime and during conflicts. During all this time I have tutored others in photography from the very basics to more advanced concepts and techniques. I really enjoy working with others to help them understand and hopefully master photography and digital imaging, ie: Photoshop. I look forward to working with you to achieve your goal.

Just What I Needed — Eric was very good to work with, and just the information I needed to get started with my camera. As a novice with a really good camera, it is so hard to learn what settings you want in certain environments and how to set them quickly so you're ready. That's what I got from Eric. Now I need to practice and then reconnect with Eric for a photo session to see how I'm doing. Too much info during this ...
