Thank you for stopping to take a look at my profile. I am a certified Elementary Teacher and have known that I wanted to teach since I was just a little girl. I grew up in a family of teachers, and I enjoyed school; however, I did not always do well on tests, and not every subject came easily to me. Sometimes I needed something to be repeated, or to be explained in a different way. As an educator, I am aware that not all students learn the same way, and that they are not all interested in every subject they are studying, which can often make things difficult. I believe in making the subject matter relevant to the student. We learn things when we can relate what we are learning to something we are already familiar with. For example, if a student is studying how animals adapt to their environment, it is simple to tie it into their knowledge by explaining that when it is cold outside, we usually wear warmer clothes, put the heat on, etc. It is also important that my student feels comfortable with me. In order for them to master skills, they need to feel that it is safe to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. I will spend the first session with each student getting to know their personal and academic preferences and interests. It is important to know what kind of a learner I am working with before planning any course of action. I believe that every student can succeed, and that it is simply a matter of making the effort to get to know my client. My enthusiasm for learning, and my outgoing personality, combined with my own experiences in school (not always having been easy) allow me to help students succeed. It is not just my goal to help my students pass their tests or do better in school - it is my hope to provide them with the tools necessary for them to continue to succeed and to overcome any future academic struggles!
