My name is Hanah, and I am a current junior at a small college near Philadelphia. I'd like to delve more fully into tutoring, because I am confident it will turn out well. Before switching to liberal arts (to study psychology upon graduation), I took education classes as first a Secondary English major, then an Early Elementary major. Every single summer since 2008, I've been involved in VBS (both local and missionary). The summer of 2012, I was the crafts director at Black Rock Summer Camp, which served children in grades 2-12. My tutoring style will come from my nurturing, fun-loving, creative spirit.
I am also excited to tutor because I think it is a fantastic opportunity. For my last job, I waited tables at a Hibachi restaurant. My income came from a wide array of customers whom I served behind a plastic smile because the restaurant mentality taught me that customers are good for money and not much else. This mentality goes against my values that people are complex, complete with thoughts and emotions, therefore meriting honor and care. As a tutor, I can pass on to students not just the contents of my head, but also my heart. I can teach different strategies I utilize for finding solutions, as well as strategies for understanding people. I believe human connection is the most powerful element to any individual, and tutoring is an excellent opportunity for it.
