Patient, Experienced Tutor: Writing, Math, French

Hi!

My name is Claire, and I love to teach! I recently graduated from Wellesley College summa cum laude with a major in history. I have taken significant coursework in other disciplines as well: I took AP BC Calculus in high school and Multivariable Calc in college.

Although I am new to WyzAnt, I have several years' tutoring experience. In high school, I tutored math as a member of the National Honor Society.

At Wellesley College, I worked for 3 semesters as a Writing TA. In this position, I taught a one-on-one remedial writing course. I worked one-on-one with a student throughout the semester, and designed exercises and writing prompts for them. I was responsible for planning weekly meetings with my student and providing them with constructive feedback. I found it truly rewarding to see the progress that my students made and the pride that they took in their work.

Algebra 1

I took Algebra 1 during 8th grade and passed with a 4.0 average. I excel at math and have taken advanced math courses, including calculus and multivariable calculus. Although I have not tutored this subject in the past, I have tutored high school geometry.

Algebra 2

I took Algebra 2 during my freshman year of high school and passed with a 4.0 average. Although I have not tutored this subject in the past, I have tutored high school geometry.

French

I have studied French for more than 7 years. In high school, I took Advanced Placement French language. I also took several French courses in college and incorporated French source material into my undergraduate thesis.

Though I have not tutored French before, I do have several years of tutoring experience in other subjects. I'm patient, organized, and enthusiastic - I would enjoy the opportunity to work with you!

Reading

As a Writing TA at Wellesley College, I taught critical reading skills to my students. They learned to differentiate between main ideas and supporting examples in a passage. We also focused on analyzing sources and summarizing authors' viewpoints. As a result of my tutoring, my students became more organized and persuasive writers.

Writing

I worked as a Writing TA for 3 semesters at Wellesley College. In this position, I taught my students to brainstorm, write strong thesis statements, and structure organized arguments. I assigned readings and paper topics to my students, and offered constructive feedback. My students also learned to proofread their own work, and so by the end of the course had developed much stronger writing skills.
