Hello,
Perhaps you've tried learning Spanish or English, but the methods your teachers used bored you to death? The TESOL teaching methods I use will keep you "on your toes", literally and otherwise. Have you ever juggled a balloon or handkerchief to learn a language? How does singing help? I use up to 16 different methods or in combination to get you from beginner to intermediate, and, if you desire, even advanced. If you try just 1 or 2 hours, you will be convinced that you, too, can learn your target language - Spanish or English.
Among the methods I use are Audio-Lingual, the Communicative Approach, Audio-Visual materials, Personal Phrase book, Educational Exercise, Sounds and Spelling, Idea Mapping, Flash Cards, Word Associations, Total Physical Response, Universal Language Generation, Word Frequency, Humor, Musical Dictation and Transcription, Tell the Story-Diary Journal, and Reading and Pronunciation. These methods are proven methods used in the top universities. I received my training in these TESOL methods under Dr. Harry Cotton of CIE in Canada.
We'll start with establishing a curriculum tailored to your goals and needs. The methods mentioned are not intended to be used sequentially. Rather, I use them based on the session and depending on which skill is being emphasized. Of course, some methods may require that the student have some conversational ability. Oftentimes, I'll teach in the new language so you can be accustomed to hearing and practicing your target language. I recommend tutoring sessions not last beyond 2 hours for language acquisition.
How do these methods work? With the Audio-Lingual method I will teach you a word or phrase based on your goals, using gestures, while you as the student listen and repeat. For more advanced students, student may perform a dialogue in the target language. The Communicative Approach will have the student(s) interviewing and conversing with others. All the methods I use will have you, the student, involved, not just listening.
Do they work? I have taught 12 week courses to more than 40 students. Among these students, some have gone to serve as missionaries in the Dominican Republic, while others are using their Spanish in Ecuador. Several couples continue to expand their use of Spanish in visiting and encouraging families to improve their lives in the northeastern Pennsylvania region. Another couple are about to go to Bolivia to use their Spanish. The results speak for themselves. We hope you will be among those we help toward your goal of using your Spanish.
