Whenever I teach/ tutor, I try to explain to the students that everything in a subject is about rules. Once the rules are understood everything becomes simple to get to the final result. This applies from writing a paper to doing a math calculation to performing a physics problem. To start my teaching processing, just like a good physician that's trying to understand the problem, I try to understand the root cause of what is needed to improve or attack the defiance of the student. Then I try to see what method or process works best for the student to understand the material. Thirdly, I go over the rules for the subject at hand and write those down for the student to use as a guide to solve problems. And fourthly, we work out problems of my own or from the book. I also try to leave a sense or support by providing references to material that can help advance the student knowledge.
