Science can be fun!
I am currently finishing up a master's degree in biology with my secondary teacher's certification. This semester I am completing my student teaching requirements in middle school/high school levels. In addition, I've been employed by Lehigh University as a Research Technician for 10 years, working closely with undergraduates on their independent research projects as part of my laboratory duties. I am a member of the Society for Neuroscience and have published extensively in the field. However, my passion is in education.
My approach to tutoring and teaching science is to begin by finding out what level the student is really at, aside from traditional test scores. The level that the student is able to APPLY the knowledge is what really matters. I will build from there, making sure that aside from being able to achieve success in the class, the student is able to take away application and recognition of how science is important and necessary in all parts of life. I enjoy being able to make science meaningful to students in creative ways. Not every student learns from memorization and reading! Learning through activity (even if it's virtual) and exploration will be key parts of the tutoring lesson.
I look forward to working with your student and making a difference in their education career.
