I have been a teacher since 2001 when I began to assist teaching Ju Jitsu at USA Martial Arts
in 2001. During this time, I also was a full-time student at Bloomsburg University where I studied Criminal Justice
. I spent some time in Puerto Rico for an internship at an orphanage in 2003 and it was during this time that I came to the conclusion that I wanted to work with youth either as a teacher or as a counselor.
I first tried being a counselor, starting at Kidspeace. Afterwards, I was hired as a school therapist at a middle school and a high school in Scranton. Unfortunately, I had a difficult time disconnecting myself from the stories that my students told me. I knew that I had to return to school to become a certified teacher.
Since I was fluent in Spanish, I went to West Virginia University to pursue my master's degree in Secondary Education, while teaching Spanish 100, 101, 102, 200, 203, and 204 as a graduate assistant for the Foreign Language
Department. During my first year there, I decided to also pursue a master's degree in Foreign Languages, with a concentration in Latin
While still studying at West Virginia University, I decided to travel throughout the Dominican Republic for a few weeks. A year later, I graduated and was hired as a Spanish high school teacher in Wetzel County, WV. After 1 year, I returned back to Pennsylvania, and within 6 months, I started to work at Hamburg Area High School. This past year, I decided to change schools and now am a K-12 Spanish teacher at a Charter School in Pottsville, PA. At this school, I also have started a Spanish and a Self-Defense Club.
Besides teaching Spanish, I teach Ju Jitsu and kickboxing and I work other part-time jobs. WHEN I have free time, I try to spend all of it with my boyfriend, my dogs, my family and my friends. Thank you for reading
and considering me as a tutor!
