Hello! My name is Philip. I recently discovered WyzAnt. I'm excited about the opportunity to assist you in mastering the inherently difficult material in your math or physics courses. I love mathematics and seeing the "Eureka!" moments when a student grasps a concept. As a graduate of Penn State with a B.S. Mathematics degree, I will provide you with a thorough knowledge of most branches of the subject. As an experienced tutor, I will offer the techniques, patience and flexibility required to help you learn the material as an individual.
During my college studies I tutored fellow students in subjects ranging from geometry and basic algebra to linear algebra and multivariate calculus. I also acted as a supplementary instructor for a Calculus II course. In this capacity I assisted the professor by teaching and reviewing the concepts taught that week. We met twice a week for 2 hours. During my Junior year I voluntarily tutored a high school student in geometry. Since graduating I have tutored an engineer in differential equations in preparation for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. He had previously failed twice, but succeeded after our sessions.
One of my most effective teaching methods is to write problems based upon the student's area of difficulty. I like to start with very basic questions and slowly build up to larger, more interesting problems until the concept is fully grasped and appreciated. Of course, I will not waste time with an already mastered area unless the need for review comes up. If I write problems, I will do it on my own time (I greatly enjoy it anyway!). I also have several supporting materials and am familiar with a host of online resources.
I hope that you've found this brief background informative and that you'll consider me dedicated and experienced enough to be your tutor!
