I attended an undergraduate program which required biblical studies classes, and I recently completed a Masters of Divinity with a significant amount of biblical study, exegesis and theology included in the program. During these courses, I engaged both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament using a number of different interpretive lenses and methods. I have also spent ten years working as a youth minister and providing biblical instruction for students.
I have been cooking and baking since I was a small child. My recipes are often-requested at church and volunteer organization dinners. I also sell my baked goods on a regular basis (as requested) and have, on occasion, been paid to cater special occasion dinners for friends and neighbors. Though not formally trained, I have a good working knowledge of various cooking methods and techniques which are useful for home cooks.
I scored high in the National Teacher's Assessment in all elementary subjects and have tutored elementary students on occasion. I like to use hands-on, practical methods to help young students grasp concepts. I also have experience in teaching using a student's primary intelligence and learning style to increase comprehension and to bolster other methods of learning.

During my junior high, high school and college years, I participate in volunteer programs which used phonics to assist children in learning to read. As a teacher, my music program assisted classroom teachers by teaching the students songs and rhymes about phonics. I also have experience in using the Letter People to teach phonics and alliteration to young children.
I have been playing piano since 1976 and have a Piano Concentration as part of my B.A. in Music Education. I also have taught piano lessons in the past. As students progress, I also teach using jazz and classical pieces in their original form.

As a learner myself, I have discovered that traditional study skills are not always effective for me. I am well-versed in traditional study skills, but I also am well-equipped with my own variations to suit non-traditional learners, students with ADD and students who may learn better through spatial relationships or tactile experiences.
