Dear Tutee,

My favorite is to work with individual students who I can be sure are learning from our sessions. One of my goals

is to be certain that students thoroughly understand the concepts and the points they may be having trouble with.

Being patient is a valuable strong point in working one on one and going as slowly or rapidly as necessary to assist students with their studies.

Since I have raised three children, students tend to be very comfortable with having me as their tutor and are not afraid to express themselves or ask many many questions. There is no "bad" question no matter how many times we have reviewed a topic.

My latest student progressed from receiving only a "C" in his second level Spanish class to a solid A the next semester he had Spanish. Parents were extremely happy and so was he.

Many students have questions about culture and this is one area in which I am well versed, having living in both Mexico and Spain for extended periods of time. These topics are always included in any language class because it is helpful to understand the culture and how individuals express themselves.

Students tend to find out sessions both useful and enjoyable.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Spanish

I learned fluency in Spanish by living in Mexico as a young person and recently living and teaching in the South of Spain for an entire school year.

I have experience teaching a number of different Spanish classes on the college level as well as teaching young children and senior citizens.

Study Skills

I have taught off and on or the last 30 years and as recently as fall of 2012 I was taking graduate level classes which required a lot study skills.

In addition I have an M.Ed. from the University of Arizona and for this degree it was very necessary to acquire as well as learn how to teach effective study skills.

TOEFL

TOEFL - My experience with teaching English to non-native speakers includes the time I spent teaching English in both Spain and Mexico as well here in the U.S. and includes teaching experience at all ages levels, from young children to adults.
