I have a duel undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island (URI), in mathematics and geology, and I graduated summa cum laude in both subjects. I currently am a practicing geologist in NJ and PA. I recently received a MS in Environmental Science with a focus in Environmental Chemistry in Spring 2014 from Rutgers. I have helped many of my fellow students while I attended URI and Rutgers and would like to continue to assist students to excel. I have broad knowledge in math and geosciences. For math, I can provide help in algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, differential equations and general statistics. I also can provide aid for a wide range of geological topics such as hydrogeology, geomorphology, sedimentology, groundwater chemistry, mineralogy, coastal geology, environmental fate and transport and more.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like help. I will be happy to assist you where I can.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a degree in mathematics from the University of Rhode Island (URI), and tutored fellow students while attending URI. The courses I took at URI built upon basic math, trigonometry, algebra and geometry knowledge, and I did very well in all math courses (graduated summa cum laude). I find mathematics very interesting and would love to help you reach your goals.

Differential Equations

I have a B.A. in math from the University of Rhode Island (2007). I took a differential equations course and a partial differential equations course while in college and did well in both. I peer-tutored those subjects while in college.

Geology

I have a degree in geology from the University of Rhode Island (URI), and graduated summa cum laude. I did well in all geology courses, which included landforms: origin & evolution, earth structure, hydrogeology, sedimentary geology, groundwater chemistry, mineralogy, isotopes in hydrogeology, New England geology, coastal geology and subsurface remediation.

Additionally, I recently obtained a Master's in Environmental Science in 2014 from Rutgers. As part of my graduate program, I have taken and done well in the following courses which are related to geology: soil physics, aquatic chemistry, environmental law, soil ecology, groundwater modeling and environmental fate and transport.

Lastly, I currently work as a geologist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I would love to aid you in any way I can in this fascinating subject.

Hi Alexa,   Adding and subtracting fractions, even fractions containing variables, can only be done when the denominator is the same.  In your case, the denominator is already the same (x+5).  Therefore, you can add the numerators of both fractions together and then...

Hi Erika,   You need to set up a system of equations to solve this one.  Start with assigning variables.  Say the number of $5 bills is "y" and the number of $1 bills is "x".  You know that the total amount of money she has is $68.  Therefore,...

Excellent Tutor — Math is not my best or favorite subject but Heather makes me understand it and actually kind of enjoy it. She is very patient and sweet and can always answer any of my questions. Every time I feel there is no hope she motivates me to study and do homework. Long story short I would highly recommend her to any and everyone, and for all my upcoming math courses as soon as I am confused I will email h ...
