Hello, my name is Andrew, and I love to make movies. My education in film started formally at Santa Fe University of Art & Design (B.A. 2004) and I most recently graduated from Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School in January 2012. Today I work as a professional editor and assistant videographer at QVC, as an independent writer, producer & director of documentaries and films, and I play in a Ukulele rock band.
Why do I think I am a great tutor? Because I love to learn. I started taking guitar lessons when I was 10 years old and I started taking video production classes when I was 15. I just turned 30 years old, and I KNOW I am still learning everyday. I can teach and tutor you in the basics- how to storyboard, how to use any camera, any editing software. Film is a language, and once you know the language- it doesn’t matter about what camera or software you use- you will know where to put the camera, the cuts, the music, the sound, the actors, the microphone, you will know how to “direct and not select” as Martin Scorsese often tells his students.
I have many books and textbooks to recommend and many, many films to see to foster a marvelous education of Cinema, Editing, Music, and Photography. Lessons would start with a 2 hour consultation- where would co-create a class, set a schedule you are comfortable with, decide on a basic textbook, and make a project of your choosing. I recommend staring with a short film script or possibly a home movie you shot, a short documentary/slideshow, or even something you want to experiment with. Dream as big as you want! Together, we can make that dream happen.
I look forward to hearing from you, please do not hesitate to inquire about more specifics, ask questions, or seek recommendations. Film is my life; I hope to share it with you.
