Hi! I am a patient, flexible, and encouraging tutor, and I'd love to help you or your child gain confidence and succeed academically.
I adapt my teaching style to students' needs, explaining difficult concepts step by step and using questions to "draw out" students' understanding so that they learn valuable problem-solving skills along the way. I have taught students from kindergarten to college age, and I build positive tutoring relationships with students of all ability and motivation levels. All of my students have seen grade improvement within their first two weeks of tutoring, and all of my students have reviewed me positively.
Through WyzAnt, I have tutored math subjects from prealgebra to precalculus; I have also tutored English writing, English grammar, and economics, and I am trained to tutor for standardized testing (SAT, ACT, GRE), philosophy, and music. In addition to tutoring, I work as a part-time teacher at a local private school, where I regularly teach technology classes and Chess Club. I substitute teach math, logic, and Bible classes. I also serve as a Teaching Assistant at Wheaton College, where I grade student philosophy papers and occasionally lecture in philosophy.
I graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Music, English, and Philosophy). I received a 2360 on the SAT (800 math, 800 writing, 760 verbal); on the GRE, I scored 800 on math, 720 on verbal, and 6.0/6.0 on writing. I received Wheaton College's highest music composition prize as a sophomore student. I have been playing the double bass and bass guitar for many years and have studied jazz bass and piano with seasoned performers. I have received several undergraduate poetry prizes, including First Place in Christianity & Literature's Student Writing Contest. I was also a Research Assistant for Dr. Foster, whom I assisted in preparing manuscripts on Renaissance literature.
Thanks for your interest in my services as a tutor. I can't wait to meet you!
