CHECK OUT MY NEW LOW HOURLY RATE!! I have over 40 years' experience working with children. First, a little bit of background: I began reading at age three and by age 12 I was tutoring and helping young children in the neighborhood learn to read and enjoy school more. I knew how schools were suppressing kids’ joy and creativity because I was experiencing that myself. Parents in the neighborhood recognized my compassion and affinity towards children and began paying for my work. After high school I worked as a paraprofessional at a Montessori school. I worked at Montessori and in the public schools while attending college for my degree in Elementary and Pre-K Education. I home-schooled my own three children, substituted in the public school system and coordinated a home-base Head Start program for two years. In the 1990’s, I began developing classes and workshops for children, teachers, parents and families. I have also provided individual instruction, staff training and parent education through outside employment experiences as well as my own private practice. I am now opening my schedule to tutor grades pre-k through Grade 4, and I also specialize in helping children who are highly aware, sensitive or who have experienced a trauma, grief or loss of any kind. I will assess your child's specialized needs and choose my curriculum and method of delivery accordingly. If, however, you are using a specific curriculum due to religious beliefs or for some other reason, I can work within those perimeters as well. Thank you for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you and working with your child!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Yesterday was a big day for me. I did something I had never done before - talked about autism to a classroom of children. Only this was no ordinary classroom. This was Helena's classroom, and her 4th grade classmates. What to say? How do I get the message across? Maybe I should back up and tell you the message. It is what regular readers of this blog [a different blog] already know. I... read more
