I am passionate about teaching the love of learning to elementary age children and children with special needs. I am a certified Elementary Education Teacher and a certified Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and Blindness. My creativity, patience, compassion for special students and the desire to find the "aha" moments are behind my teaching methods.

I have taught nursery school students, gifted elementary students, and most currently, visually impaired and blind students. Motivating each student through active participation and moving at a speed appropriate and comfortable for each child is important to me. Building a rapport with each student and creating a comfort zone are important aspects of creating a learning environment conducive to learning.

I have been successful in working with students on a one-to-one basis for over 20 years. It is most rewarding when former students contact me and thank me for teaching them a specific skill that has helped them to be independent and confident young adults. Yes....I am passionate about teaching and wouldn't trade professions for anything in the world.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching elementary grade visually impaired students for 20 years. My students are in different grades and on different levels so I am familiar with various math and language arts programs. I follow the same curriculum as the regular education teacher.

Study Skills

I have been a teacher of students with visual impairments and blindness for 20 years. Study skills and organizational skills are a very important skill I must teach them. I don't think it matters if you are sighted or not... Good study skills and organization are important.

Special Needs

I graduated with a BS in Elementary Education/Special Education-Visually Impaired and Blind.

I have been teaching visually impaired and blind students for 20 years. Most of my students have other special needs in addition to the visual impairment such as autism, ADHD, a learning disability or a developmental delay.

I think it is important to build a rapport with the child and then move at a pace where success is obtained. This takes time and patience.
