My name is Julian and I'm a recent graduate of Frostburg State University (located in Western Maryland). I have also been accepted into the Spanish Master's/Ph.D program at the University of Connecticut.
During my undergraduate years, I studied in Mexico for a year where I developed near fluency and taught English as a second language.
Upon returning to the States, I excelled in the English department by having a composition I wrote nominated to the University's English Colloquium and formally recognized.
By graduation in December of 2013, with 7 registered classes (5 Spanish, 2 French), I was able to successfully make the Dean's List, demonstrating an advanced level of dedication.
Currently, I work as an as-needed Spanish tutor for high school students affiliated to the Regional Math/Science Center (a division of the federally-funded Upward Bound program). I also worked as a Spanish Teacher & Tutor/Counselor for a number of years during their 6-week summer residential program for high school students.
Although I was a Foreign Language & Literature major in college, English always remained at the foreground. In order to excel in the comprehension and fluency of another language, it is extremely important to have an excellent command of your native language, in my case, English.
In the spring of 2013, I was nominated by my Business Writing professor for an investigative report regarding American immigration concerns on various aspects of its society. I was formally recognized for my writing and presented the basis of it to the local and university communities.
After taking AP Literature and Composition with a very strict teacher, I began to appreciate grammar. I have learned how grammar is used to aid in expressing the tone and messages of whatever written piece. My understanding of grammar is at a very detailed and intricate level.
I have an enhanced ability for proofreading, since I can do it in both English and Spanish. I have experience proofreading documents written in English by both native and non-native English-speakers. As a part of my university studies, proofreading work in English and Spanish is extremely important for comprehension and expression in written works.
As a university student, I minored in Sociology. I took a variety of classes ranging from Social and Gender Inequality to Deviant Behavior to Marriage & Family. In my Sociology minor, I averaged a B+.
