Eric is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Houghton College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and International Studies. Eric also spent time at the University of Granada in Spain at the School of Translation and Interpretation to study Spanish language, literature and culture.
These studies have been followed up with graduate work at the Alliance Theological Seminary in intercultural studies/missions and a Master's of Arts degree in the Social Sciences from Montclair State University which concentrated on anthropological and intercultural studies.
Since graduating from college, Eric was hired because of his language ability by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to work with the administration of HUD programs to the public, nonprofit organizations, and local businesses. Much of this work required communicating in Spanish and across cultural lines – both in assisting individuals and in community development.
Eric has also spent considerable time in web site management and development which included work on a Spanish language site and in teaching about web development to nonprofits, a process which also reached across language and cultural boundaries.
In addition to his work at HUD, Eric had also done considerable work with Spanish speaking populations in Southern PA and in North Jersey – working with the YMCA of Kennett Square and Berlitz language school, respectively, both for interpreting/translating Spanish and in teaching English as a second language to individuals of diverse cultures. Apart from Spanish, Eric’s affinity for language, has also led him to study French, Greek, Italian, Russian, and Mandarin.
Eric is qualified to tutor ESL/ESOL as a result this language training. He has experience teaching ESL for Berlitz as well as in local programs and in tutoring opportunities both in the US and in Spain. His training in several foreign languages broadens his understanding of the language learning process and has helped him understand learning styles and to craft his sessions to best assist the learner.
Eric has also used his language skill in several missions opportunities in both Mexico and Spain.
