Good day: My name is William. In the past three years I have changed my career focus from business owner to educator. I have taught at the elementary, middle, high school and community college levels. I have tutored high school, college and adult students. I have tutored for classroom improvement and test preparation--ACT, SAT, ASVAB, GRE. I enjoy tutoring immensely and have been fortunate that my students have shown progress and have been successful.

My educational background includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University with heavy emphasis on math including Algebra; Trigonometry; Analytical Geometry; Elementary and Advanced Calculus; Differential Equations and Vector Analysis. I have an MBA (Master's in Business) from the University of Pittsburgh with emphasis on Analytical Methods for solving business problems.

I believe the following:

1. Math is a skill. The more you practice at solving problems, the easier it becomes.

2. Critical reading is needed in order to know what you are trying to solve.

3. Learning basic relationships of various geometries, i.e., triangles, circles, cubes and spheres etc. and committing these formulas to memory will go a long way to solving problems and also reduces the time required to solve problems on a test.

4. Solving problems will build self-confidence and hopefully help the student enjoy math.

Before inviting me into your home, you should know that I have my Act 33/34, Act 151 and FBI Clearances required to teach in a Pennsylvania Public School.

I will be happy to tutor in your home. I do require that a responsible adult be present. My experience is that a public or college library is a much better setting if that can be arranged.

Our son will be majoring in Engineering at a major University. We wanted to be sure he had the skills to be successful in his Calculus class he would be taking as a first year Engineering student.

Mr. R. patiently worked with our son to review all the basic math skills in Pre-calculus and trigonometry before he started teaching him Calculus. We are grateful that our son will have confidence and a big head start as he enters into this difficult college course.

Mr. R. sincerely cares about his students and their success. He has even offered to take calls from my son at college if he is having any difficulties.

William is well versed in algebraic concepts. I couldn't have asked for a more patient tutor. I look forward to more sessions with him!

I must report that Mr R showed patience and understanding beyond what I had any right to expect. His skill at interacting with a 17 year old discouraged at math was extraordinary. My son was at first reluctant about all of this, but was in the end grateful. We are certainly pleased.

The first session was not easily arranged, but the tutor was proactive to ensure that it came about. For that, I am grateful. Basic material was carefully covered. My son seems more confident even after a single tutorial.

I've been out of school for ten years. I'm preparing for the GMAT and Mr. R. is very patient with me. He makes sure I get one concept before moving on to the next.

William R tutored my daughter last summer for the new GRE exam. She is strong in verbals, but very weak in math. She was only in the country for a month, so that's all the time William had to work with her. He was very accommodating re: schedule and did a great job analyzing her weaknesses & learning style. He was very motivating and was able to help bring her math skill level up significantly. She went from a 520 to 630 in math, in a very short period of time. I am sure it would have been even better if they'd had more time. I would like others who are looking for a reassuring, motivational, committed tutor to know that William R fits the bill!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1 is an introduction to solving math problems with a variable which is unknown until the laws of algebra are applied. Time is spent reviewing these laws and then working problems applying these laws. Continued practice is required to become proficient in solving the linear equations that occur in Algebra 1. Another part of Algebra 1 is to solve word problems wherein the student is required to setup the linear equation based on the information given in the problem. A crucial part of the students success is that he commits himself to practice solving the problems. I am always available by phone or email to assist the student if a problem becomes to difficult to solve.

Algebra 2 consists of eleven topics, some of which overlay previous topics in Algebra 1, Trigonometry, and Geometry.

These topics include the following: Fractions; Introduction to variables;Decimals;Negative numbers; Exponents and Roots; Factoring; Linear Equations; Word Problems; Linear inequalities; Quadratic Equations and Word Problems that require use of quadratic equations; Logarithms and graphical solutions.

Math tutoring begins with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and word problems. We then start fractions and make sure that you understand how to do the 4 operations shown above also knowing how to use the(+) and (-) signs. In addition we learn how to solve ratio proportion and percent problems and of course word problems and solving algebra problems.

The verbal questions begin with your understanding of English grammar including nouns, verbs adverbs and adjectives and understanding words in context. I will provide mini tests which include ASVAB problems to determine your progress.

If you encounter problems on the home work you may call me for assistance without additional charges. Of course there may be a limit to this.

I begin with a review of elementary math up through the 3rd grade. This includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. If the student is weak in any of the four areas of arithmetic, especially negative numbers or multiplication tables we will work to strengthen these weaknesses.

My tutoring sessions are a minimum of 1 and 1/2 hours or 2 hours. In each tutoring session I emphasize what we are trying to learn. I than pose several problems and finally I work with the student to solve the problems. After I am assured that the student understands this process, he will be given homework problems to solve and turn into me prior to his next tutoring session. If the student cannot solve a certain problem. He or his parent may call me to resolve the problem. At all times I am courteous, patient and encouraging to the student and I do remember the problems I had with math when I was in the 3rd and 4th grades.

Geometry is a wonderful subject to study. It involves the study of circles; cubes;rectangles; triangles to resolve the perimeters, surface areas, and how the Pythagoram Theorem

is used in some of these calculations. Learning geometry provides the student how to understand real life objects and use this information to solve real life problems. I would like your daughter to become motivated about math and gain the self confidence that comes with getting good grades.

The verbal questions on the GRE include comprehension questions on both long and short passages. There are questions on both direct statements and inferences (your interpretation of the readings). Also included are sentence completion questions (inferential); word analogies and antonyms. Analytical writing skills may or may not be tested depending on the latest revision of the GRE.

Quantitative problems include solving algebraic problems and problems involving triangles, circles, fractions, exponential problems, data sufficiency problems. Neither calculus nor trigonometry problems are involved.

I would like to be listed as a tutor for the Praxis Test, Math portion only. I have taught at the elementary, middle, high school and community college levels. I currently have two separate Praxis Study Guides-"Cracking The Praxis" guide published -by The Princeton Review and another Guide by ETS. I am totally competent in all the math problems that the Praxis TEST presents. I also tutor for other standardized tests including the SAT and GRE and my students have shown marked improvement following tutoring sessions.

Pre-algebra is where you learn to solve problems with unknown variables. This includes problems in simple geometry such as squares, triangles, cubes, circles, parallel lines with a transversal. All the geometrical figures have properties such as perimeters, areas, circumferences where you need to use the Pythagorean Theorem and circle equations.

Pre-Calcaulus is based on elementary arithmetic including algebra (solving equations and inequalities); geometry, including perimeters, areas, volumes of cones, squares, rectangles circles, spheres and triangles. Right triangles are especially emphasized. Graphical solutions of many different equations need to be shown. Logarithms and how to add, subtract, multiply and divide are emphasized. If time permits we can work with complex numbers which involve solving problems with an imaginary component; i.e (-1)^1/2= i and therefore (-1)^1/2 (-1)^1/2= i^2= -1. There are of course other topics but we will concentrate on the basics.

I tutor only in two hour sessions and I have observed over the years that the students who progress the fastest and retain the most schedule two-2 hour sessions per week. I am available to tutor from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. I will tutor from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. I prefer to tutor in the local library or Panera Bread. I will tutor in your home as long as there is a responsible adult present during the tutoring session.

SAT Math problems revolve around solving problems associated with triangles, circles, rectangles, trapezoids and

three dimensional problems; spheres, cubes and pyramids.

These problems involve calculating unknown quantities such as area, perimeter, angles, or more complex areas generated between a rectangle and an inscribed circle. Also problems involved with 4-5-6-7-8 sides (quadrilaterals) and infinite series, as well as ratios, proportion, and percents. There are many additional types of problems which require critical thinking.

Trigonometry includes several topics concerning triangles. These topics includes the angles in triangles and ratio of the sides. Special emphasis is placed on right triangles. Other topics include perimeter and area calculation, graphs of the six circular functions, logarithms, trigonometric identities, inverse trigonometric, complex functions and polar coordinates.
