Hi there! My name is Travis and I want to help you become the drummer you've always wanted to be. No matter if you like jazz, metal, something in between, or something completely different, I aim to help my students start playing their favorite songs, as well as work on improvisation and jamming skills.

In our lessons, we will split up the time evenly between working on rudimentary skills and technique, improvisation, and playing songs that you choose. By splitting up lessons like this, not only will you become a more accomplished musician, but you will gain confidence in playing and have fun doing it!

Now a little about myself: I've been teaching percussion since 2007 and graduated from college in 2012. I have taught both marching percussion and drum set, as well as rudimentary music theory. Most of my students have been either brand new to music in general or new only to percussion music, though I am also willing to work with students who have already had some drumming experience.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drums

I have taught percussion to students for 5 years and play set and marching percussion myself.

I'm always amazed when I hear people say they don't like jazz. There are so many styles of jazz out there, there's bound to be one type that you can appreciate and enjoy. Here are some examples of some of the different styles of jazz, so hopefully you can find at least one that you like (and keep in mind, this is just me picking examples that I happen to like from each genre, and this is not... read more

Hello there! I'm new to WyzAnt so I thought I'd update this blog. I'll use this blog in the future to post links to instructional videos as well as examples of awesome drummers. To kick things of, here's Santa Clara Vanguard playing one of my favorite cadences, Double Beat! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q5MbGZqJkE -Travis
