I am a middle school/high school science and math tutor. I've been tutoring students for almost 8 years now, since I was in college, so I have lots of experience teaching. I've also taught classes from middle school to the university level, all in either science or math.
I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Albright College and I did graduate work in Microbiology at the University of Connecticut. While I was at UConn, I taught three different classes: one semester of Anatomy and Physiology and two semesters of Biochemistry. My students had the lowest fail rates for the last two semesters I was there. Since graduate school, I've taught at the high school and middle school level, doing tutoring in chemistry, biology, physics, calculus, algebra, and geometry, and teaching full sized classes on chemistry and forensics to middle school students.
When it comes to science and math, I don't believe the material is beyond anyone's reach. Science and math, unlike some other subjects, don't depend on natural aptitude to signal success. Instead, success depends only on how hard students are willing to work on it. To this end, I expect all of my students to work, but I don't expect them to understand the material the first (or fifth) time around. I also expect that we might have to get creative in how we explain the material, either using diagrams or physical objects or finding a metaphor that fits for that student. I'm willing to put in that work so long as the students are.
I have my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Albright College with graduate work in Microbiology/Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut. I have taught biology courses at the middle school, high school, and university level, and have been privately tutoring biology for the last 8 years. I am currently awaiting PA certification for secondary education in Biology.
