A Bethlehem resident, I hold both Pennsylvania and New Jersey teaching certificates. I graduated from the post baccalaureate teacher education program with Western Governors University.
I have extensive experience working with a wide spectrum of students, including a year as assistant supervisor of a tutoring program for students in Morristown, New Jersey. I received the Recognition of Excellence Award for my Praxis scores in academic subjects. Writing and Math are areas in which I truly excel, though I am interested in all subjects. I am a published author of children's books.
My classroom experience includes working as a teacher's assistant at a private school for students with learning disabilities, and as a group leader in an early bird program for public school students in Randolph, New Jersey.
For the past four years I have served as a substitute teacher at all grade levels K-12 in the Bethlehem Area School District, and more recently, in the Whitehall Coplay School District. This position has allowed me to observe many teaching methods and to learn what works best for different students.
I tailor my tutoring style to fit the needs of the individual student. For the student who needs a more structured style, I use a very traditional approach. Some students respond better to a more relaxed or innovative tutoring style. I use the style that will produce the best results. Of course, as a tutor I must work within the curriculum taught by each individual's master teacher. I consider myself a supplement to that teacher.
