My name is Jonathan. I am a recent graduate of Middlebury College, where I majored in History with a minor in Chinese. I live in Berwyn, PA and grew up there, graduating from Conestoga High School in 2009. I have been studying Chinese for 5 years. I attended Middlebury's Summer Language School in Chinese, and studied abroad in Beijing and Hangzhou, China in the winter and spring of 2012. While not completely fluent, I can speak it conversationally, and can write both simplified and traditional characters, making me more than qualified to teach Chinese to middle and high school students.
In addition to Chinese, I also offer tutoring in history. I have studied histories from around the world and can tutor in the history of any region, though I specialize in American and Chinese history. I wrote my history junior thesis on British reaction to the Opium War, and my senior thesis compared the political philosophies of two early 20th century revolutionary figures in China, Sun Yat-sen and Zhang Binglin.
I have played the clarinet since I was in 4th grade, and was a part of the Conestoga High School Marching Band, the Conestoga Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, and the Middlebury College Orchestra, and can teach students basic or more advanced clarinet skills in addition to my academic knowledge.
