Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I have passionately studied composition since childhood by listening closely to the masters in Classical music as well as all other types of music. I am just finishing a recording of my own compositions for solo piano and have collaborated with and advised and taught many people over the years with their compositions and/or arrangements. Among other things, I have had the pleasure of hearing some of my collaborations on the radio, used as "buttons" on the NPR news program, "All Things Considered".

Ear Training

I am highly experienced and skilled at transcription and have a deep, thorough and complete understanding of harmony and music theory. I have shared this skill and knowledge with many people over the years.

General Music

I have studied and enjoyed music since childhood and have played music professionally in a wide variety of styles and contexts since high school and full time since 1980. My experience in and knowledge of music is very extensive and I have been privileged to work with many great musicians throughout the years.

Guitar

I am an experienced guitar teacher. I have mostly taught at a beginner level, but I certainly have knowledge of many advanced topics. My approach is very flexible and tailored to the individual needs and disposition of each student. I am informed by an extremely extensive knowledge and experience of music in general.

Piano

I am a full time professional musician and have been teaching piano for 60 years. My knowledge and experience are very extensive and I have become particularly skilled at teaching each student exactly what they would most want to learn.
