A little about me:
I earned my Bachelor’s in Biology from Florida State University in 2009. Then, after working as a research lab technician for a year, I earned my Master’s in Biology from Drexel University in 2012. Since then, I have been working as an admissions counselor for a pre-medical post-baccalaureate program until I start medical school in the fall.
Experience:
I have been tutoring in some form or another since I was a junior in college. I have worked as a tutor privately as well as with larger organizations. More recently, I have been working as a teaching assistant and tutor at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School. At this high school I focus on general biology, general chemistry, math, and writing. Occasionally I also help students with ASVAB and SAT testing. In addition to these direct experiences working as a tutor and a teaching assistant, I have taken well over 150 hours of science classes and labs including everything from plant biology to neuroscience.
Style:
I would consider myself the polar opposite of a traditional sit-in-lecture-and-silently-take-notes-while-someone-reads-a-PowerPoint-slide type of style. Plan to be interactive and thinking on your feet. Learning the underlying concepts and principles rather than the raw data is the key to doing well in science and that’s something that I hope to help you learn through the many tips and tricks that I have learned along the way.
