I taught 7th grade Language Arts and Math to students with learning disabilities for two years in Phoenix, AZ, as a Teach For America Corps Member.

I currently tutor university students at the Writing Center on my campus.

I specialize in English and writing, but am happy to help students at any level with any number of other subjects, including elementary/middle school math and AP courses.

Outside of teaching and writing, my interests include football, theatre, improvisational comedy, and playing the ukulele.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is a particular academic strength for me. Four years of Latin in high school left me well prepared to tackle the English and Italian curricula in college. I play vocabulary games (like Free Rice) for fun, and I enjoy identifying new words by breaking them down to their roots.

Grammar

I currently work at a University Writing Center, where I am simultaneously earning a Master's in English. I work on a daily basis with written grammar and usage, particularly in essay format.

Prealgebra

I have spent the last two years teaching seventh grade math standards in Arizona. I know how to work with students who dislike math (having been one myself), and, as a former special education teacher, I am comfortable accommodating to learning disabilities.

Writing

I have always loved writing and the study of writing. I taught writing as a component of Language Arts courses, and I currently tutor undergraduates in writing. I enjoy writing academically and creatively, and I sincerely enjoy improving other students' writing.

I am particularly happy to assist with essay writing in all of its forms, including college admissions, research papers, and AP exam prompts.

English

I am currently completing an MA in English at Villanova. I graduated cum laude from Notre Dame with a degree in English. Literature is my passion and my career, as I plan to continue on to doctoral studies.

Literature

As an MA candidate in English, my responsibilities in class and as a Graduate Assistant include:

Lengthy reading assignments in poetry, literary theory, English and American literature from diverse time periods such as Early Modern, 19th Century, and texts representing Modernism and Postmodernism. I am particularly interested in Shakespeare.

Italian

Italian studies was my second major at Notre Dame. In the fall of my Junior year, I studied abroad in Rome and traveled throughout Italy. In the interests of fulfilling graduate school language requirements, I am maintaining study in Italian independently.

GRE

I have taken the newly formatted GRE Computer-Based Test. On the 130-170 point scale (and 6 point writing scale), my scores were:

Verbal: 166 (97th percentile)
Quantitative (Math): 161 (86th percentile)
Writing: 5.5 (96th percentile)

Proofreading

As a Research Assistant and a Writing Center tutor, proofreading is a major part of my day-to-day work. I also must consistently proofread my own writing for graduate level assignments.

ACT Reading

I have taken the ACT multiple times. My best score in reading was a 36.

ACT English

I have taken the ACT multiple times, scoring either a 35 or 36 on English. I will be completing a Master's in English next year.

Theatre

I have been a performer for the last ten years, with credits ranging from plays to musicals to improvisational comedy with both school and professional theatre companies. I have taken voice/movement classes and have stage combat experience.

Public Speaking

In high school I was an avid participant in Speech and Debate (Forensics). I competed successfully in a wide range of events and was a four-time state champion, as well as a national semi-finalist (top 14 in the country).

As an actor and director, I have experience coaching people in performance. As a teacher, I have found that I must maintain many of the same skill sets to engage my students and enrich content.
