My name is Kelly and I have always been a creatively minded person. I love the arts, from music to visual to liberal. My favorite author is Ernest Hemingway and my favorite painter is Vincent Van Gogh. I am an unashamed bookworm and love to frequent art galleries and museums. I took A.P. Art History and A.P. English in high school and received perfect scores of 5 on both. Those two courses inspired my dual major at Ithaca College, Bachelors of Arts in both English and Art History. I completed both of these degrees in three years, a feat that required diligence, much hard work, organization, and motivation. After finishing my undergraduate degrees I was admitted to the Teaching Certification and Masters of Arts in Teaching program at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. My coursework covered a wide variety of teaching a reading strategies that enable me to address each student's needs and develop the optimum learning plan to ensure success. Upon completion of my student teaching at Bethel High School, I obtained a position as a long term substitute for 12th grade English. One of my main goals as a teacher was making sure that my students were enjoying the process of learning. I tried to utilize technology in my classroom every day and help them to understand that although the required reading might sometimes seem stuffy and boring, those authors really knew what they were doing!
I have worked at Weir Farm National Historic Site, one of the only National Parks that focuses on preserving America's artistic legacy and, while working there, learned about American Impressionism and was also given the opportunity to work first hand with conservators. Art History is an excellent way to make history, which can sometimes seem a bit dense and overwhelming, come to life through the artwork that captures the zeitgeist of the age.
Above all else, learning is meant to be fun. I guarantee that I can turn Dickens and Shakespeare from seeming as though it was written in a foreign language into a piece of cake. I can help you with reading strategies, test preparation, anything that you may need. Learning is always possible and I am here to help you in whatever way you may need!
