I am a certified special education teacher with five years of teaching experience, including students diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I am also a TSS, providing emotional and behavioral therapy to children, which has also included multiple clients with ADD/ADHD. I will be finishing an MED. in Special Education by next spring.
I have taken graduate level coursework in autism and have experience working with students diagnosed at the higher end of the autistic spectrum. I am working on an M.Ed. in Special Education and am a certified special education teacher with five years of classroom experience.
I am a certified special education teacher working on an M.Ed. in Special Education. Coursework included a class on autism, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Positive Behavior Support, and Advanced Inclusionary Practices. I also have experience not only in the classroom working with students with learning disabilities and on the spectrum, but also as a TSS.
I have played flute since 3rd grade and was involved in concert band, marching band, orchestra, and pit orchestra throughout school. In college I continued to take lessons and helped start a flute ensemble. I have played in weddings for family and friends and enjoy sharing my gift of music with others. I tutored a friend when we were in middle school - her parents hired me to help her improve her skills.
I enjoy all genres of music and have had many years of experience reading music and playing the flute. I played piano for five years (although I am no longer proficient) as well, so I have played in both clefs. I love to share the importance of music and how it can help bond people of any culture.
I use Publisher to create newsletters, brochures, and invitations. I have taught ESL students how to use Publisher for personal uses such as creating calendars and invitations for parties. I think it is an often overlooked program because people do not understand what it is and I want to help them learn not only how to use Publisher, but not to be afraid of it - Word isn't always the better program.
I believe phonics is the foundation of learning English. I have taken a course in Direct Instruction Reading, a program in which the foundation of reading is improving fluency through phonemic awareness. Phonics is part of becoming a good speller, which in turn improves one's writing skills. I enjoy teaching spelling in relation to phonics, using books such as Dr. Seuss to help students practice sounds not only in real words, but also using silly and nonsensical words as well.
I passed all Praxis exams on the first try - without the use of a study book or guide. This includes the general exams of reading, writing, and math. As with many standardized tests, it's not just the content that is necessary for success, but I would also help the student learn good test-taking strategies as well.
