I have known since second grade that I wanted to be a math teacher. I was the kid on the playground using recess to teach her friends to subtract. After graduating from Lehigh University with a BA in Mathematics and M.Ed. in Secondary Education, I spent six years teaching high school math. I am now a stay at home mom with my two year old daughter, but I miss working with older students. I enjoy the thrill of helping someone learn something new.
I have taught Algebra I for several years, including remedial and college prep levels. During the field test of the key stone exams in 2011, my class had a 92% passing rate.
Somehow, in my 7 years of teacher, I have never taught Algebra II. However, as I have taught class before and after it, I do have a firm grasp on all concepts covered in this course.
In addition to all the calculus courses I had in college, I also taught a calc course while student teaching. While it has been a while since I taught this subject, I do still feel I know it, and I am willing to put in the time to refresh my memory ahead of any tutoring sessions.
I have taught geometry every year since I started teaching (7 years). It quickly became one of my favorite subjects. I enjoy finding the connections between all the different properties, and encouraging my students to do the same.
A good foundation in pre-algebra will help through the rest of the math courses that follow. As a general rule, I believe in not only learning the processes and rule, but understanding how and why they work. This makes it easier to move forward later.
I have taught PreCalc for several years, including helping the district to develop the curriculum. I enjoy all the different topics covered by this course.
I have taken courses in probability in college, as well as taught a prob/stat course at a high school level. While it has been a while since I taught this subject, I do still feel I know it, and I am willing to put in the time to refresh my memory ahead of any tutoring sessions.
SAT math is not only about knowing math, but being able to apply math skills to the SATs. In addition to helping students learn math, I have also helped student prepare test taking skills for the SATs.
I have taken two courses in statistics in college, as well as taught a statistics course at a high school level. While it has been a while since I taught this subject, I do still feel I know it, and I am willing to put in the time to refresh my memory ahead of any tutoring sessions.
I have taught trig for several years, including helping to develop the curriculum for my district. I love that by the time to you get to trig, many more real world applications become accessible.
