If you are an undergraduate or HS student in the greater Ann Arbor area seeking tutoring in math or physics, look no further, because I'm your guy! My name is Gopal, and I recently graduated with high honors from Cornell University, double-majoring in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering. Now, I'm a Ph.D. student researching state-of-the-art problems in Medical Imaging at the University of Michigan. In my spare time, I enjoy tutoring students of all backgrounds to keep my teaching skills sharp.

To state it briefly, I have quite a bit of experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate and high school students, especially for someone my age. I have been a Cornell Physics and Mathematics Tutor for three years, during which I have tutored students in most undergraduate physics and mathematics subjects through one-on-one tutor sessions, small group discussions, and lectures. I've also had similar physics/math tutor positions through my high school, as well as a voluntary teaching position to younger children at the DaVinci Science Center in Dorneyville, PA.

I am also available for SAT and GRE preparation, particularly for the new tests which came out in 2008 and 2011, respectively. Having recently prepared and taken these tests myself, I have the advantage of being up-to-date on all the latest question types and the necessary tips and tricks to help my students succeed.

Calculus

I've received A's in collegiate courses in single-variable and multivariate calculus. I've also used the prerequisites (trigonometry, high school algebra, geometry) in numerous mathematics competitions, including MathCounts, ARML, AMC, and USAMO.

SAT Math

SAT I Scores: 800/800 Math, 760/800 Verbal, 790/800 Writing

GRE Scores: 169/170 Math, 160/170 Verbal, 5.5/6.0 Writing

GRE

I took the new GRE (scaled from 130-170) in September 2011. I received 169/170 in math, 160/170 in verbal, and 5.5/6.0 in writing. I was accepted into several PhD. programs with these scores, and will be matriculating to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for a PhD. in electrical engineering in the fall of 2012.

Discrete Math

Much of my Discrete Math experience comes from the number of mathematics competitions (MathCounts, Math24, ARML, AMC, USAMO) that I have competed in, though I also took a formal Number Theory course at Franklin and Marshall College, through the John's Hopkins University CTY program.

Differential Equations

I took Differential Equations at Cornell University and received an A in the subject. I am familiar with solution methods to linear, 1st and 2nd order, ordinary differential equations; Fourier and Laplace methods; linear algebraic methods; and partial differential equations.

Computer Programming

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University. I now do research in my doctoral degree that regularly makes use of MATLAB, C, and Unix platforms. I am also proficient in Java and Mathematica.

Computer Science

I took AP Computer Science AB in high school and received a 5. I am proficient in basic computer science skills along with data structures (trees, heaps, sorting algorithms, structures, objects, maps, etc.).

I competed and placed 4th nationally at ACSL (American Computer Science League).

As far as languages are concerned, I have expertise in Java, MATLAB, and Mathematica, and am proficient in C and C++.

Linear Algebra

At Cornell University, I took an Honors Linear Algebra course and received an A in it. I've also taken two courses in quantum mechanics and mathematical physics apiece, each of which have expanded upon a first course in linear algebra extensively.

MATLAB

I have been a dedicated user of MATLAB since 2007 for most engineering applications. I received an A in a short course at Cornell on MATLAB essentials, but really began to harness the power of toolboxes through higher level application courses such as Feedback Control Systems (Fall 2011). Also have experience using Simulink through employment experience.

Electrical Engineering

I recently completed my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering at Cornell University, and will be pursuing my Ph.D. in EE at Michigan in the fall of 2012. My expertise lies in digital signal processing, analog circuit theory and design, control theory, and microelectronics, though I have also taken courses in lasers and optoelectronics, digital design, computer organization, and microcontroller design.
