I have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering obtained in 1986. I love tutoring math and I am a step-by-step oriented tutor. I have had several students return saying how my way of tutoring continues to help them in their current studies. In my years of experience, I've learned that many students learn with many different ways. I believe that every student can learn, however, the tutor must reach them at their level. For years I tutored math at all levels at Lehigh Carbon Community College (Donley Center, Allentown, PA). In that time I have learned different things related to presenting math in a way that can be understood by all level of the student. Mostly, I focus on explaining the most important steps of a particular skill and then guiding the student to developing their understanding to go forward in math. My tutoring goal is to help students become independent learners. In mathematics, it is important to teach concepts rather than just processes or procedures. For example, the tutor should explain why it is important to follow the order of operations rule. If the student cannot get the correct answer and asks for help, usually I look at what the student has done and try to locate the error. Then I have the student work a similar problem to make sure he/she has grasped the concept or procedure. I am looking forward to working with you and out my experiences to the benefit of the students.
