The first 3 of 5 years of college was initially in an Engineering curriculum at Walla Walla College in College Place Washington. It is a fully accredited Seventh-day Adventist institution. After the third year I relocated to Spokane and then took 2 more years to complete my Bachelors degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics. I graduated from Eastern Washington University outside Spokane in 1976.
I have tutored college students in math while attending college in my senior year, and then privately for a year after I graduated. Recently I tutored an adult student from Clackamas Community College in his physics and math classes. I was an instructor for nearly 10 years teaching adults and youth boating safety in the Coast Guard Auxiliary education program. There was a Coast Guard course and certification involved to qualify as an instructor. I curently assist a PCC student with his Math 95 class.
My style is to help the student learn how to learn technical subject material. I do this by finding the best method to use for that individual, whether it be visual, auditory or repetition through writing and problem solving. I attempt to establish a starting point by assessing what the student understands from the class material to date, and then develop a schedule to bring the student current in subject matter and course work. I am married to a retired grade school music teacher who likes to stay familiar with all of my tutoring activities.
I try to work concepts into problem exercises so the student has better understanding of the theory and method used to derive the right answer. Tutor time is not having the instructor just do the homework for the student.
I can help a willing student to improve to a satisfactory level, and I hope I can do it for you.
