I rocked as a certified teacher in Texas! I taught special education in elementary and secondary levels for over seven years. I taught reading, math, basic math, literature, vocational skills, study skills, and social studies. I assisted general education teachers in their classrooms with our special needs students. I taught all exceptionalities including the gifted and talented students.

My students loved that I made work easier for them through modifications I made and gave them a chance to do the same sort of work as their classmates in the mainstream classes. I made the work fun as we learned about all genres of literature while also studying 'survival' reading and writing. For example, we had vocational classes where we would set up a store for the rest of the school to sell school supplies. We re-created the Globe Theater and learned about Shakespeare's plays. There were many of other things we did as they walked across the bridge of information and support that I help them create. Sometimes it was tough learning new things, but we learned to be patient and respectful with each other and my students felt supported as we moved through the material. We worked on raising their state scores so that they could graduate. I tutored each student according to their need when and if they needed extra help.

My reward for teaching was watching my students walk across the stage at graduation. Success speaks for itself! With me in your corner, you will have the little extra edge you need to be successful in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have a degree in special education and my work was primarily with learning disabled students many of whom had ADD/ADHD. I also am a mother of a child with ADD (who is grown and successful).
My method to work with this type of student is to first give them tools to bring themselves back to task. I also give more frequent breaks and gear the material to a more movement oriented learning style.

Adobe InDesign

I have a fine art degree with emphasis in graphic design. I used and continue to use InDesign for my layouts. I was a Creative Director for B.E.W. Publications in Durant, OK.

Anatomy

I have an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology and worked in the field for 10 years. Anatomy is memorization of certain Latin root words and then how they are modified to explain where a certain part is on the body. With the use of mnemonics and various study techniques, anatomy can be conquered.

Business

I was a certified teacher in Texas. Since that time I have been in the business world including running my own business as a tutor and life coach. I know well the steps to setting up a business and many of the things that are necessary to keep it going. I can help you see the tree in the forest or the forest instead of the trees. From there we can make a plan of action steps that works for you and ends up with you being successful.

Drawing

I have been an artist for as long as I have been able to hold a pencil. I have a degree in fine art as well as education. My work is in many fine homes across the nation. I also can help you see light, shadow, form and line in new ways by a method that gets your left brain out of the way to let your right brain really see. Drawing is the basis for most work and even if you do not do representational work, it will help it by sharpening your eye.

Dyslexia

I have a degree in education and special education. I can and have taught students at both the elementary and high school levels with dyslexia to learn to read. Learning to read is fundamental to functioning in our society. Color coding words can help some students make sense of how sentences are formed and be able to make word choices and print associations easier. Phonics is another method that I can teach to help your student learn ways to read. There are many strategies to conquer what may seem like an insurmountable obstacle. Together we can help your student read!

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a Texas Lifetime Certificate in Elementary Education k-8. (1995) I have Taught Elementary ed.

Marketing

I have been the Creative Director at B.E.W Publications, an advertising agency in Durant, OK. As such it was my duty to see to the designs for our clients of the many marketing materials for print.
I have also had my own business and studied extensively the work of Brendon Bruchard, attending his NY 10X seminar as well as studying the Million Dollar Messenger, Experts Academy and others. I know how to help you build your funnel to your landing page to get the conversions you seek.

Microsoft Publisher

I have a fine art degree with emphasis in graphic design. I used and continue to use InDesign for my layouts. I was a Creative Director for B.E.W. Publications in Durant, OK.

Painting

I have a fine art degree with emphasis in graphic design. I used and continue to use InDesign for my layouts. I was a Creative Director for B.E.W. Publications in Durant, OK.
I have painted since I was about eight years old. I have studied painting at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts School, with the late Dick Turner of Houston and many other fine teachers and professors.
It would be my joy to share my love of painting form, light and composition with you.

Photography

I have a fine art degree with emphasis in graphic design. Houston Art Directors Club has a juried competition each year. The year I entered 2,500 other students entered. Of that 2,500, only 75 were chosen to show. Of those 75 only five gold metals were awarded. My work "Floating Chair" won the gold metal for photography that year (2003). I love photography and continue to use it professionally for creating things like CD covers, bio head shots, etc. I can show you some tips and tricks to getting just that right moment frozen in time.

Public Speaking

I taught for seven years. I had to take Public Speaking as a part of my training in order to teach. I have spoken numerous times in public on a variety of subjects. Techniques to teach public speaking includes researching the subject matter, outlining, practice voice control and connection to the audience among many strategies.

Religion

I am a student in the ministry track of Science of Mind, a New Thought denomination. I have studied many religions over 30 years of reading. I am familiar with many Christian theological points of view as well as Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu. I have a background in Islamic mysticism as well as an understanding of Taoism, Confucius, and Shintoism.

Social Studies

As a certified special education teacher, I had to be able to teach any subject that was needed for my students. I have taught social studies both at elementary and high school levels. Games are often what can make social studies fun such as Flat Stanley being mailed around the world for the study of geography and cultural anthropology.

Sociology

I took 18 college hours in Sociology and Social Psychology as a part of my degree in Education. Much of my Special Education work had to do with social work on behalf of my students. Tutoring this subject can be done in conjunction with many practical applications in real world scenarios.

Special Needs

I am a Texas certified special education teacher with 7 years of experience. I obtained my degree with high honors at Texas Woman's University in 1994. I look at each student as an individual and how I can best serve them with modifications and extra scaffolding.

Study Skills

As a special educator, one of my most important rolls was to teach my students how to study. With the use of flash cards, walking and talking aloud, mnemonic devices, etc., they were able to succeed independently. There are numerous devices for learning to hold information until it gets into long term memory with which I am familiar and have used myself. Organization is also very important to many students. I have taught students who are more right brain thinkers to bring their work together in such a way that makes sense to them.

Web Design

I have a Bachelor of Fine Art with emphasis in design communications. I am presently a webmaster and have designed my own website. I have served as a Creative Director for BEW Publications.
