I received my bachelors in English in 1978 from the University of California at Santa Cruz. I earned a Masters in Psychology at Antioch University West in 1983. I started teaching in 1985 as a California Poet in the Schools. Shortly after that, I began teaching a variety of writing classes at UCLA Extension. In Portland, I have worked in elementary and middle schools with Wordstock, the TAG program and Saturday Academy. I taught writing in High Schools with Writers in the Schools for thirteen years.
Students of all ages can learn to write well. I have been a tutor for over ten years and have helped students with essay writing including college admission essays. I also help them organize their busy lives. As a licensed psychotherapist, I know what gets in the way of learning and I know how to help students get over the hurtles that are blocking their progress. Anyone who has been given the tools can write powerful and effective essays, stories, articles, and poems.
I can help people of any age learn to write effectively. I have also coached students who have hit an emotional stumbling block and are having trouble getting to school. I can come to their house and help them organize assignments, and ultimately support them to feel empowered to return to school. I am a published poet with a book coming out in May of 2014.
