Hi there! My name is A'me (pronounced like "Amy"), and I would love to be your tutor!
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I matriculated from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, a.k.a. New Mexico Tech. It is a small university that only offers degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. You may have seen it on Mythbusters.
During the course of my undergraduate education, I worked in biology labs and with the mathematics department, and even acquired 12 graduate-level credit hours. I graduated with high honors in 2010.
Although I am a biology whiz, I consider myself an expert generalist and have excelled at many other things--math (up to and including integral calculus), physics (up to and including electromagnetism), chemistry (organic, environmental, quantitative analysis), Psychology, and English.
I would also be able to help with test prep (ACT, SAT, ASVAB). I have taken several aptitude tests, including the ACT (32 overall, and my science score was perfect) and the GRE (82nd percentile, with a 750/800 on the math section).
I have experience as a grader for the Mathematics Department, which involved pointing out errors and calculating grades. I also tutored engineering students in calculus and offered a condensed genetics course for students who took Evolutionary Biology on a prerequisite waiver.
Additionally, I have experience as a middle and high school substitute teacher. I am familiar with different learning styles and common roadblocks to the learning process.
My basic philosophy is as follows: Most roadblocks to the learning process mostly happen because of the way in which we are taught, not necessarily because of our own flaws. The best course of action is to learn critical thinking skills. I will help students learn HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
My resume and college transcripts are available upon request.
I am willing to offer reduced fees for low-income students in the area.
I hope you like what you see. Feel free to message me with any questions. =)
