I have a Masters degree in math from Portland State University and I am working toward my Ph.D. in math. I have experience both teaching and tutoring math classes. My future goal is to become a professor at a university, but in the meantime, I teach as a graduate student and also tutor. Tutoring is different than teaching because we can spend as much time as needed to master a particular concept. If one way to explain a concept does not work, I will try another. There are usually a few ways to explain the same concept, so we can always find one that works.
In a typical tutoring session, I explain the concepts the student wants to learn and show some examples. Then, we work on problems together until the student gets comfortable with the concepts. Repeat this until time runs out!
