*** Due to increased interest in my services, I now offer tutoring services at my office in SW Portland near John's Landing ***

Hello and thank you for viewing my profile.

I have worked as a full-time freelance tutor for the past five years. I have tutored over 100 middle, high school, and college students in SAT/ACT/GRE test prep, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus and biology. My students have ranged in age from elementary to college level and have attended public, private, charter, and home schools. I have worked with students with various learning differences, including ADHD. I subscribe to “Hotmath”, an online resource for most local math curricula. I have worked for several tutoring agencies and after-school programs where I specialized in math, science, test prep, and essay editing.

I currently tutor the following subjects:

- SAT, ACT, and GRE test preparation
- Pre-algebra
- Algebra I/II (at some schools this is called algebra 1/2 and algebra 3/4)
- Geometry
- Precalculus
- Biology (specializing in cell biology)

I have a bachelor's of science in molecular biology from the University of California, Davis, and completed two years of graduate studies in environmental microbiology at UC Santa Barbara. During college, I tutored fellow undergraduates in biology, biochemistry, and genetics. After my studies, I traveled to Central America and volunteered to help homeless teens living in a group home in Nicaragua.

After I left grad school for medical reasons, I discovered private tutoring was a great match for my skills, expertise, and passions. I truly enjoy working with students individually to help them surmount the many challenges school places in their paths.

I moved to Portland five years ago, and I have been tutoring and teaching ever since. In addition to tutoring, I worked for the SUN program in Portland tutoring in their after-school program. I developed and taught the Magnificent Microbes and Introduction to Biotechnology class for Saturday Academy during the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011. I also teach microbiology, forensic science, and marine biology for Saturday Academy and local elementary schools.

“Our tutor was extremely helpful and helped me reach my SAT goal. I had a great experience and was so happy with the end result.”
