Math is often daunting, but I believe that the mystery can be taken out of it! Algebra is a fascinating study in numbers and unknowns. I'm the official Math GED tutor at American School of Success, and I have helped many students with math skills through Portland State University and private tutoring.
In the last few years I have been tutoring college students at Portland State University through private contracts. In these tutoring sessions the major emphasis has been on the CBEST. I feel very confident in helping students succeed in each of the CBEST components.
In the last 7 years, I have worked with music composition with my music students. When it comes to training I took Music Theory and Composition at college. Since then I have written different compositions for my harp and continued to study basic composition.
I have studied dyslexia personally and for my degree in elementary education. I had classes on working with students with special needs, and I have personally worked with students with dyslexia in my tutoring. There are specific strategies to helping these students learn in a way that is clear and tangible for them. In my subbing, I've worked with dyslexic students, and my brother has dyslexia as well.
My bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education, and I am licensed in Oregon. Currently, I am substituting in the Oregon City, Multnomah, and West Linn school districts. In addition to this, I have been tutoring students for several years.
For the last seven years I have been a multi-functional private music instructor. I instruct students in beginning & intermediate piano, harp, music theory, and composition. With my degree in elementary education, I have been substituting in music classes for overall understanding of rhythm, expression, and musical awareness.
My degree is elementary education, and I am currently tutoring students in phonics and reading. Working in a first grade classroom, tutoring beginning readers, and studying phonics have all contributed to my ability to help students with phonics.
I have been teaching piano lessons for the last 7 years. Also, I have taken college music education and music theory classes. Personally, I have played the piano for 19 years.
To receive my license in education, I had to complete the Praxis. I scored in the top 15% on the national level. In addition to this, I have tutored students in the reading, writing, and math elements of the CBEST at Portland State University, which is often considered a comparable teaching test in various states.
My degree was in Communications at college before I changed my major to education. In high school, I won a national speaking award. I was on the speech and debate team in college and won silver for my informative at the national speech competition. In the past six years, I have tutored speech in the college setting and in private tutoring. I can help students with informative, persuasive, introductions, critical thinking, impromptu, and more. It is essential to have good presentation skills with eye contact, deliberate movement, and good word choice. I feel confident I can help students in each of these areas.
I took several years of American Sign Language in college, and I have been a tutor at the college level for sign. I have experience in beginning and intermediate sign language. Also, I have helped students put music into sign language.
