Adobe Photoshop
My professional background includes several years designing advertising and promotional materials on computer using, among other graphics programs, Adobe Photoshop. I continually work to update my skills in this program by taking online university courses in Adobe Photoshop and am increasingly adding to my knowledge and skills in this program. I am currently at the intermediate stage of knowledge and skills in this program, but with continual course study and practice, will soon progress to advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop.
ASVAB
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is the main test a potential armed forces recruit must pass to qualify for membership in one of the military service of the United States. The ASVAB covers basic knowledge of math, verbal and writing skills and vocabulary. For persons wanting to enter military service, the ASVAB score is a crucial. It serves as an indicator of prospective job placement. Higher test scores can mean better jobs and more opportunities for advancement while you're in the military.
Desktop Publishing
I have a great deal of experience using computer graphics programs (Adobe Photoshop, PaintShopPro, et al) to design and publish brochures, newspaper and magazine ads, circulars, certificates and a wide variety of other marketing and sales materials on a professional basis. I continually update my skills through tutorials and online workshops and classes. I have years of creative services experience in advertising and promotion using desktop publishing, video and audio editing and scripting.
ESL/ESOL
I taught ESL/ESOL/TESOL for 2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in South Korea. This job was at the college level and included classroom, language lab and extracurricular activities. I also held special classes for the university president and teaching staff to help them become proficient in the English language. In addition, I studied Korean, Italian, Turkish and Spanish languages, giving me a great deal of insight into how a student learns. This helps me to teach on a "student level" rather than simply repeat phrases from a book. I concentrate on the conversational style of talking as well as working to improve a student's ability to read and write English.
I have also taught a variety of public speaking classes for the City Colleges of Chicago during my time in Turkey while in the US Army. In addition, my career background includes professional announcing jobs in radio and television which add to my ability to correctly and precisely pronounce words and phrases, helping the student to better learn and understand proper English pronunciation and composition.
General Computer
I have worked on/with both business and personal computers for the past 15+ years and am familiar with all Windows operating systems. My experience with various programs includes creative suites such as Adobe's and JASC's graphic programs, Sony audio editors and a variety of desktop publishing programs. I am proficient in a variety of Microsoft Office programs and in the Open Office suite, as well.
I am quite confident that I can offer you both basic and advanced training in computer skills, techniques, programs and knowledge that will help you make the most of your computer-related time and projects, from drafting letters and papers to setting up and using links ,databases, worksheets and accounting programs. I can also help you learn internet navigation and how to use the web for research, education, shopping and other functions to help make your life more interesting and rewarding.
Marketing
My professional background includes over 20 years in advertising, marketing and promotion. Marketing in this sense means to develop, enhance and promote a business or product to the general public. I have designed and executed marketing campaigns for businesses, events, agencies, products and people that have been both effective and memorable. I have used all forms of media in distributing marketing campaigns and strategies and am very knowledgeable in how each medium works and what skills and materials are necessary to effectively use each one as a marketing forum.
Microsoft Outlook
I have been using Microsoft Outlook as my main email program, calendar and appointment planner for over 15 years. I am very familiar with the program and all of its features and updates. I find Microsoft Outlook to be superior to any other multipurpose personal information manager available and extremely easy to learn and use. It is most often used for sending and receiving email; however, it also has a calendar, a task manager, a contact manager, provides a note taking application and a journal and functions as a web browsing program. Third-party add-on applications can integrate Outlook with BlackBerry mobile phones, MS Office & Skype internet communication, too. Those who like to develop their own programs can also create custom software that works with Outlook and other MS Office components. It is a marvelous tool that allows computer users the ability to perform many functions using only one program.
Microsoft Word
I have been using Microsoft Word for over 15 years. I am very familiar with the full-featured word processing program and all of its features and updates. It is the most widely used word processing program around. Other developers have tried to emulate it, but users overwhelmingly choose MS Word as the program of choice. I find Microsoft Word to be superior to any other word processing program available and extremely easy to learn and use. It is a marvelous tool that allows computer users the ability to perform many document creating functions using only one program.
Proofreading
I currently work as a proofreader for an online ebook publisher called Will Murray's Pulp Classics. In the course of many years working in journalism and advertising, I have acquired a tremendous amount of experience in reading, writing and proofing a variety of documents, books, magazines, speeches, educational and professional papers and a host of other written materials. This is one skill I am proud to say has been expertly and professionally developed over the years and used quite regularly.
Public Speaking
Throughout my professional career I have used the platform of public speaking as a major part of my skill set. I have over 30 years in the announcing profession in radio and television. I have served as master of ceremonies and host at many events and have been the company spokesperson for several companies. I have performed publicly in stage plays, commercials and other types of public speaking venues. I have also taught public and professional speech on the college level.
Speech
My career has depended a great deal on my skills and abilities in speech. I studied speech in college and used my skills in the course of over 30 years of professional assignments. I have made speeches at many functions, have participated in verbal interpretation competitions, have been the public voice of several television stations and have spent many years in the announcing profession on radio. I have also taught speech at the university level.

Video Production
I have worked in television and private video production for over 20 years. My knowledge and expertise include shooting video with a variety of different video cameras, recording audio to accompany video, downloading both audio and video to editing equipment, cutting required audio/video shots to be used in the editing process, assembling shots using digital equipment and programs to create the desired product in the length requested (anywhere from :05 to several minutes and, on occasion, up to and beyond an hour) and then presenting the product to the client who requested the product. I have editing experience or am familiar with the following products: Adobe Premiere, AVS, Roxio, Sony, Final Cut Pro and Avid. I am also a quick study on other video editing software available on the software market today. I am confident that I can tutor beginning students in the art of scripting, video capture and video editing to the degree that they will be able to gain the knowledge necessary to eventually become an accomplished video editor.
Writing
In the course of my 25+ years working in journalism, television promotion and radio broadcasting, I have acquired a tremendous amount of experience and expertise in the area of writing. I have written speeches, advertising copy, business and professional letters, research papers, press releases, testimonials, stories, news copy and a host of other types of written material. Writing is as much an art as it is a skill and requires an extensive vocabulary and expert knowledge of thought organization and sentence construction. I am extremely confident that I have all of the necessary skills and credentials required to help others learn to write well.
