Hello. I have a master's degree in ESOL education from Lewis and Clark College and have taught Japanese (levels 1-3) and ESOL at the high school level. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in many ESOL classrooms and worked as a Japanese-English translator for several business seminars in Seattle. Currently I work as an ESOL and Japanese language tutor for adults. I have worked mostly with students from Korea, Japan, China, and Vietnam.

I enjoy working with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and understand the challenges that come with learning a second language while adapting to a new culture. I lived in Japan, Hawaii and Switzerland for most of my life and had to learn several languages in order to get by. As a tutor I am very patient and enjoy adapting lessons to suit your unique learning style. I like to make learning interesting with lots of useful connections to real life. I hope to meet you soon.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a masters degree in ESOL education. I taught ESOL in a public high school but I have also tutored students of all ages (K-adult)

Japanese

I am a native speaker who grew up speaking Japanese and English at home. I taught high school Japanese (levels 1-3) at a public school and also taught adults.

Japanese is notorious for being difficult but that doesn't mean you should suffer through it. I like to include activities that are meaningful to students of different ages and personalities.I often include internet resources, videos, songs to remember difficult concepts, and a good dose of culture.

Very very good — Hanna's English is excellent, especially for a Japanese native speaker. She is always well-prepared for each lesson and is equal parts professional and personable. Communication and scheduling have both been prompt, simple, and easy. I look forward to each lesson. ...
