Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been active Christian for 25 years. My training comes from biblical seminars throughout the years, including “The Bible Overview” class which was a comprehensive study of the entire Bible in a year. Taking this class more than once, I have extensive reference notes from the classes. My twenty years as a teacher enhances my ability to make biblical studies come alive. To bring relevancy to the Bible, I can draw upon my experience in children’s ministry including theatre, feeding the homeless, prison ministry, singles ministry, Operation Christmas Child, Spanish ministry, and multiple mission trips to Honduras and Peru. Recently, I facilitated the “Courageous” Bible study for the Gospel Rescue Mission. Currently, I am conducting a Bible study in the book of John for our home group.

CBEST

After completing my Master's degree, I enrolled at Cal State Los Angeles in the education department. I was only 7 classes lacking in obtaining my Secondary Teaching Credential. During this time, I purchased CBEST preparation materials and studied them. However, my management job required more and more time with a state grant project, and I had to leave my schooling, shy of the credential. My over 20 years of teaching college business, writing, communication, and Spanish classes, have covered many subjects from CBEST.

Film

I produced, directed, and edited video productions for 12 years at The Vons Companies, Inc. in Los Angeles. I continued being active in video production after being promoted to Video Communications Manager from 1989 to 1997. My department produced 100 videos per year, and some were marketed. I personally earned 10 awards for excellence and my department earned 40 video awards during my tenure. More recently, I have directed some recruiting and promotional videos.

Marketing

I co-taught Marketing at Cerritos College in California with the Senior Vice President of Marketing from The Vons Companies, Inc. where I was employed. In 2002, I became the Director of Communications for Henderson’s Line-Up in the RV industry. Within this Oregon-based company, I designed and wrote ongoing advertising ads using QuarkXPress for thirteen national and regional RV magazines. I also designed marketing materials for promotional campaigns such as direct mail pieces, brochures, flyers, postcards, posters, coupon cards and telemarketing sales announcements.

Public Speaking

I have taught Public Speaking on the community college level for over 20 years (Los Angeles, CA; Grants Pass & Roseburg, Oregon). I currently teach Public Speaking in the classroom at Rogue Community College and online at Umpqua Community College. I have BA degree in Speech Communication from San Diego State University. I would utilize current method of teaching - starting with simple speeches and building to bigger speeches. I would encourage the student to bring in family, friends, and neighbors to view some of the speeches.

Theatre

I earned my Master’s Degree in Drama from San Diego State University in 1988. In 1977, I performed in the professional touring production of “Grapes of Wrath” which had performances in cities in California. Popular Hollywood actor Ed Harris was in the production. In recent years, I have performed in children’s theatre in a large variety of roles. I also wrote the play scripts for some of the productions.
