Hi, my name is Ryan.
Let me tell you about myself. I am a college student who just graduated from Mount Hood Community College this June and I plan to go on to Oregon Institute of Technology in the fall. My major is engineering and this has given me a lot of experience with math. I have been a tutor at Mount Hood Community College for the past two years. To become a tutor at MHCC, you must maintain at least a B average in the subject in which you tutor; there is an extensive training program that goes along with it, as well.
I enjoy working with students who have a hard time learning math. Growing up I had a difficult time learning math and I overcame this challenge and can relate to others who are struggling. With the training that I have had I have other skills and tools to make whoever I tutor feel successful about what they are doing. Tutoring is not all about getting the right answers, but it’s about understanding that we all have the skill to learn math. In addition to helping students with their learning, I will teach them how to study for math tests and how to make sure they are getting the most out of their homework.
I have experience tutoring students with different learning styles. With the tutoring training that I have had I can help any student with their learning style that they prefer. I can explain things in an algebraic manner or in a more visual manner to get my point across and help the student. I will cater to each student individually.
