Looking for an Oklahoma certified teacher and reading specialist to tutor your child one-to-one? I offer tutoring for students in prekindergarten through adult. Subjects covered include: vocabulary, grammar, reading, English, spelling, and math. I also can incorporate the following subjects: writing, test preparation, homework, and organizational skills. Tutoring is essential, because it provides highly individualized one-to-one instruction, free from distractions.
In the past, I have spent a lot of time teaching small group interventions which focuses on the reading sufficiency criteria that is mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. I have also worked with many gifted and talented students preparing them for writing contests, presentations, and preparation to be successful for the Oklahoma Curriculum Test that is given in the Spring. In the past I have been given the opportunity to teach art and writing and many of my students have produced writing portfolios of which they are extremely proud!
I have presented a number of PowerPoint presentations for teachers, parents and students. I am a strong advocate against cyber-bullying and bullying at school. I believe a child MUST feel safe, confident and strong to succeed and do well in school. I know many strategies of how to equip your child with anti-bullying tactics, so that they will be well equipped with healthy ways to deal with frustration, anger and to know beyond a doubt that they can conquer any situation that he or she may face in school and outside of school with total confidence!
I also have been in charge of Literacy Night activities and guidance for projects for parents and children to work on together. Do you think tutoring is only for struggling students? Nothing could be further from the truth, even students that excel in all areas need a tutor to broaden their horizons. There are so many opportunities for your child in this vastly changing world, you want to make sure that the career path your child eventually chooses is the one best suited for his or her strongest placement and also one that he or she will find most life fulfilling! I also believe a child should choose two back-up career choices as well!
I believe that education involves the student, parent, and teacher, and the additional help of a tutor is always a plus. A tutor can cheer your child on and reinforce with the child and their parents all of the wonderful traits and qualities that they possess and it can truly be a life changing experience that brings about hope and confidence. In this day and age, with all the stringent requirements that are required of a child, I believe that a competent tutor can help the child realize the ways they learn best and hone in on skills they want to perfect and conquer those subjects that appear to be a challenge. To summarize this thought, I think students need tutors whether they are struggling or need to be challenged!
I know how to bring your child up to grade level and also provide teaching strategies that challenge your child. A FREE CONSULTATION is provided before the first tutoring session starts. I will ask you to give me some background on your child's academic strengths and weaknesses. My overall goal is to make sure that your child enjoys learning. Your child spends a lot of time at school, so it needs to be a place that he or she has the opportunity to build their confidence, and experience success on a consistent basis! In grades pre-kindergarten through 2nd or 3rd grade, students are "learning to read." In grades 3 and up, they are "reading to learn!"
I have taught with the Oklahoma Public School system for 25 years, so I'm very well trained to teach the five pillars of reading: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and writing. If your child is struggling in passing the DIBELs-Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Learning, the BEAR-Basic Early Assessments of Reading or Literacy First Test requirements at their school, I can be a tremendous help to your child. I have been an interventionist for a number of years and have had much success with my students in helping them to become competent in all areas which helps their competencies across the curriculum. Reading is the one subject that is integrated into all subjects! It is a necessary skill to attain to be successful in life!
I have a lot of resources to draw from through my past experience to help your child feel confident about their education ranging from identifying how your child learns best and adapting lessons that will benefit your child through their learning style. I use a lot of motivational strategies. I provide rewards like Braums Ice-Cream, Sonic, pizza, or McDonald's incentives and remember your child's birthday. I believe in intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. I think it's important that students understand the importance of each! When I do give rewards it is because they have genuinely earned them!
There is no reason for your child to experience academic inadequacy or failure. As a parent or guardian you will never regret giving your child a strong foundation in their academics. This is the one thing you can do for them that will last a life time! Remember as the Wise Owl says: "Whooooever strives to be strong academically in education will definitely accomplish their goals, be able to pursue the career of their dreams and become wiser than an owl and definitely will be proud of their accomplishments!"
