Hello, my name is Vicki. I have two grown children who are successful in their own fields and five terrific grandchildren. I went back to school in my late 30's and found that I still love to learn. I especially enjoy government, history and the social sciences, but would not mind helping younger students with subjects such as English and math as well.
With an adult learning disabled child (who is now a college graduate) and a grandchild with autism, I know there are many different ways individuals learn. I also strongly believe that is the educator's responsibility to find the best way to help the student be successful and feel good about themselves.
I have completed all coursework and exams for my Ph.D from The University of Oklahoma--all I have left to do is complete my dissertation. I am certified by the State of Oklahoma as a school counselor, and I have taught classes at the college level.
I enjoy research, but I enjoy teaching more. Recently, I started my own business; however, it should not take up too much time and still allow me to tutor.
As for my work experience, I have been a counselor for many years with the Oklahoma County Drug Court Team. For the last seven years, I have worked with women and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
Now I am starting a business where I will be working with the batterers, helping them to realize the impact that their abuse has had on others and learn different ways to deal with anger and stress.
As I've said, I love to learn and believe if I learn one thing new each day, then the day isn't wasted.
