Hello!

My name is Megan and I am 25 years old. I am from a small town in Oklahoma and went to college at Northern Arizona University. Awarded with high honors, I graduated from school receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a medical emphasis. Alongside my academic career, I am certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. I have always been very passionate about academia and that is why I started sharing my view with others. Tutoring for the past six years has been a way to express the love I have for school. It has also been a way to shape my personal character into becoming a better educator. My diverse background in Chemistry and medicine has allowed me the ability to educate students in all areas of science. In addition to science, I am also well versed in mathematics and preparation for standardized test taking.

I believe the most important quality a student should obtain for academic success, is excellent study skills. I pride myself in cementing fun and constructive ways to improve study habits. I share a mutual, respectful relationship with all of my students. Because of this, I am able to efficiently excel them into being successful in the academic realm.

In addition to higher education, I truly enjoy teaching students in elementary school. I was a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters for four years. Over those years, I mentored and tutored two little 'sisters.' In an effort to make learning fun, I came up with creative ways to convey concepts. For instance, my little 'sister' was struggling to memorize the structures of the cell body, so we created an edible science model out of cake and assorted candies. We cut out certain parts of the cake and used the candy to represent parts of the cell. Needless to say, we ate all of the parts of the cell, including the nucleus.

If you have any questions about my teaching styles or how I can better assist you, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to the opportunity to help you or your child prepare for the future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have been tutoring Pre-Kindergarten-12 grade for the last 6 years with great success. I am very familiar with common core standards and teaching them due to my past and present students. Along with tutoring, I have been substitute teaching over the past year, so I have had direct help learning and teaching these academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy. To be an employee of a school district you must be knowledgeable and up to date of the academic standards.

Cooking

I have been learning how to cook since I could literally walk. I was born in Oklahoma so I was raised cooking unhealthy yet delicious foods. However, I realized when I ate healthier I felt better. Therefore I taught myself how to make healthy yet delicious meals. Anything you want to learn to cook I can teach you. From basic concepts to advanced meals.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a firm believer that the years spent in elementary school are the most precious for developing both confidence and study habits. During your child’s education, two roles must be fulfilled for successful pavement of their future. The first role, represented by your child’s educators, is to nurture and encourage your child’s learning endeavors. This is very important for creating a fun, stress-free learning environment. The next role involves both child and educator parties and encompasses embracing their education. This is very important for the willingness and curiosity of further learning. As 4-year volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters, I know I can epitomize these roles and help your child succeed in all facets of education. Several of my previous students have taken the skills I portray onto them all the way to their collegiate years. Please let me a piece of your child’s education and help them become the absolute best they can be in the classroom.

Nutrition

I took several classes in my undergraduate that helped me learn about nutrition. I am naturally inquisitive when it comes to eating right. I have helped most of my family members discover the art of eating healthy and losing weight. Losing weight doesn't have to be hard if you understand it and being healthy feels great.

Sign Language

I began to study sign language when I was 17. A friend of mine had a mother and father that were both deaf. I longed to communicate with them in their own language so I enrolled at my local community college. I began taking night school since I was still in high school and fell in love with the language. I continued taking classes during college and completed 4 semesters. I have kept my skills sharp buy practicing and teaching sign language regularly.

Study Skills

I graduated from high school with a 4.04 and from college 3.46 with a degree in Chemistry. To accomplish these things you have to have good study skills. The hardest thing for a student to realize is what study habit works for them. I have helped many people find their groove when it comes to studying.

Outstanding — Megan is outstanding. My 9th grade daughter struggles with ADHD and dyslexia, so we've had more than our fair share of tutors over the years. My daughter truly looks forward to their sessions twice a week. Megan tutors her in all subjects, helps her to develop organizational skills, and is always prompt, well prepared, enthusiastic, and engaging. Immediately after each session, she sends a detaile ...
