I have completed my Associate's in Applied Math and Physics at Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City. During my duration there I earned a place on the Presidential Honor roll. I am currently a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma where I am working toward my Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics. I have done private tutoring in mathematics from prealgebra to calculus. In addition I have tutored mathematical applications required in physical sciences such as basic chemistry and physics.
I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to use what I have learned and investigate it further, while helping others with their education. In tutoring I lead the student on a journey through the topic by breaking it down and showing the student how it not only applies to their textbooks but to daily life as well. In addition to mental fitness, having been a martial artist for years, I give a degree of importance to physical preparation; meaning as important as it is to study, the student should be sure to take a break between their studies, and take a walk or jog, whichever makes them feel most comfortable. This has proven effective because the mind is like a muscle, it needs relief between exercises, and basic exercise has been proven to improve the functions of the brain.
I have found in many cases students often feel frustrated because they cannot either grasp a certain concept right away or have devoted much time and effort and have not achieved satisfactory results. I explain to the student that this is not a misfortune, because in not grasping it right away, we now have the opportunity to break the concept down and reconstruct it with a better understanding. This deeper understanding rewards the student with excellent self-satisfaction as well as a deeper grasp that will assist him or her in the future. In each student I tutor, I hope to not only assist them in successfully completing their course (though that is the primary goal) but to allow them to see mathematics as a useful tool in their daily lives.
