I am a college graduate who was an RN for 17 years. During that time, I home schooled my three boys for eight years, and just completed being my youngest son's learning coach for online school for the last two years. I have taught science, math, algebra, history, spelling, language, phonics, and many other classes. I have also taken the NCLEX in the past. I was also in the military and scored very well on the ASVAB test. I have taken many college level classes in anatomy and physiology, psychology, sociology, chemistry, and nursing. I use many different learning techniques because I understand that every person learns differently. I use visual, memorization, verbal, mnemonics, notes, tables, examples, reading, writing, hands-on, etc. It depends on the student's specific strengths. I was also an aid for 1 1/2 years for a child with Down-Syndrome, using many different techniques to help her understand her school materials. I was a pediatric nurse for many years, as well as tutoring a few children privately at different intervals. I love working with children or adults, so I hope I can meet your needs. Deb is a wonderful tutor. My daughter was struggling in Chemistry. She has been able to explain things to my daughter in 3 sessions that her instructor couldn't do in 2 months. She helped my daughter understand what she got wrong on quizzes and even went so far as to reach out to the instructor when a question was unclear. She has gone from failing when we started three weeks ago to a "C" now and after she retakes her quizzes I expect a "B' or better. I would recommend her highly to anyone! I can't say enough about how wonderful she is, I just wish I had found her 4 weeks ago!
Simply the best!! My son had seen numerous tutors with no success until Debra. I have never seen him more upbeat. He wasn't confused anymore.. Like I said SIMPLY THE BEST.
Debra helps my son with Geometry. We really did not know what to expect. The first time he came back from meeting with Debra, he was so excited because she explained the concepts in a way that he finally understood. She relates well to my son. According to him, she is nice, smart, patient, and she explains difficult concepts in a simple way. I highly recommend her.

Great personality, great teacher! I now have hope I can overcome the math challenges I am having difficulty with. Highly recommend!! Very knowledgeable in all areas of math.
My son was so happy to have someone that was helpful and easy to understand. He had a great sense of accomplishment from getting his project done. She guided him through his work, reviewed for errors and improvements and set goals for what he needed to do on his own. Thank you again Debra.
Deb is patient and well versed in math. She has been working with my 16 year old son, and is doing a phenomenal job. My son enjoys working with her. I believe you will be pleased with her tutoring style. Every time I send a text to Deb, she always responds back quickly.
Debra is patient and works hard with a plan for every session. My son loves when it's his day to see Ms. Deb. Our family loves her style and approach. Ms. Deb is very patient and the care she gives to each student is amazing. She will always get 5 stars in my book.
My 14 year old daughter is taking geometry. Debra is a wonderful tutor and my daughter is relaxed with her. Debra has helped her so much. I can not believe I found her on the Internet. It is a blessing to have found her. Thanks.
Debra has been assisting my son in Pre-AP chemistry and has really boosted his confidence. We have seen increased test scores just over a few session. We would highly recommend using Debra for tutoring, she has been very accommodating with our schedules and subjects that our son needed help on. My husband is a brain injury patient. Debra is just fantastic with helping him. She is very encouraging to him. She makes things very easy for him to understand. She has enormous patience and a great attitude that he just loves his tutoring sessions. He is excited every week to go to tutoring and has been talking of how getting his GED doesn't seem so hard anymore. Debra has been extremely helpful and very flexible and easy going. Within the first session she quickly identified the best learning style for him. She has been very easy to get a hold of when necessary. I would recommend her to anyone especially anyone who may have disabilities and need tutoring. Overall Thank you Debra for being a wonderful tutor!!!
Debra has been instructing my son, who is a student at OU this Fall, on Algebra and Chemistry. He has only positive things to say about Debra. She makes sure she understands how you learn and teaches you on your level of learning. She makes sure you are getting the concepts down by having you work the problems and then rework them until you understand them. Definitely someone I would recommend again and again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My youngest son is ADHD. I have taught him at home for a total of seven years, both unmedicated and medicated. I know the signs of ADHD, as well as what type of learning environment is best for someone with ADHD. I also have a 17 year medical background as an RN, so I have had professional experience with ADHD as well.
I took the AFOQT and was given a college scholarship through the military under the ASCP program due to my scores. I have six years of aircraft maintenance experience, as well as an AAS in Aircraft Maintenance Technology, both during my years in the Air Force. My military background will be useful for tutoring.
I was a basketball player in high school, as well as in the Air Force, for a total of 10 years. I coached children's recreational basketball for seven years. I coached high school girl's basketball for two years.

I taught the Abeka curriculum to my three children through 7th grade. Classes included were phonics, language, science, health, math, reading, spelling, vocabulary, writing, and history. I use many different techniques to ensure that I meet their learning skills. I teach verbally, hands on, using examples, written, and using objects to explain tough problems. I use everyday examples to make things seem more real.
I come from a musical background. I can read music in both treble and bass clef. I know the different types of notes (whole, half, quarter, etc.). I have sung in church choirs since childhood. I play and read guitar music, as well as recorder. I am self-taught on the piano, so I am familiar but not expert.
I have used Microsoft Windows for years. I am familiar with many of the programs, including word processing, disk defragment, system restore, and the everyday needs of word processing. I have a strong grasp of the basic components and can navigate the system when troubleshooting the system.
I was a nurse for 17 years. My skill set ranged from medical/surgical to pediatrics to labor/delivery/postpartum/nursery to psychiatrics to geriatrics to home health. I took the NCLEX and passed it the first try. I have a strong grasp in many areas of nursing because of my diversified background, which is important on the NCLEX.
I was an RN for 17 years, which included teaching patients proper nutrition, as well as alterations in diet due to certain sensitivities and disease processes. I worked with anorexic and bulimic teens, as well as trying to meet the nutritional needs of two of my own children with dietary issues. I have also cared for a child with Celiac Disease, and I understand the special needs set forth by these types of issues.
I taught the Abeka phonics program to my children, which helps students understand the different phonetic rules of reading and spelling words (such as "i" before "e" except after "c"). I taught blends, and I taught how to use those blends to make words. I started with teaching the sounds of all the letters, then writing all of the letters. From there, we learned basic blends that could be used to make different words. For example, learning the blend "at" can help students to learn bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, sat, and so on. Using blends and rules help the student to learn the English language more easily. I was also an aid for 1 1/2 years for a child with Down-Syndrome, using many different techniques to help her understand her school materials. I was a pediatric nurse for many years.

I assisted her in interacting with the other children in her class. I was an RN for 17 years, so I am able to handle the physical and mental assistance required by children with special needs.
I swam on a swim team for several years. I am proficient in all strokes: breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and freestyle. I know how to do bilateral breathing and flip turns. I still swim several times a week at the local YMCA.
