Hello! Beginning in August, I teach for the University of Akron, at the Wayne College campus. Also, for the past two years I taught Composition I and II courses for Briarcliffe College. Working with students to improve their college level writing skills is an absolute joy for me. Between teaching courses, I make sure to connect with students outside of the classroom. As a graduate student, I taught an independent classroom for two years, giving me a total of four years' experience at the college level.
When working with students, I am careful to tailor discussion to particular needs. Each student is different, meaning each lesson works uniquely. Taking feedback to continually improve sessions, students achieve mastery of writing in my classroom. We each have different learning styles; by working with students individually, I make sure everyone has the chance to succeed.
Because each lesson is tailored, I work with students on all levels of writing. I have lessons for grammar and sentence structure. Developing critical thinking and writing skills is also part of the process; with students, I create lessons that interest him or her, making learning both intriguing and beneficial. I find the technique very effective with college-level students; many of my Akron students are post-secondary, meaning I have experience with high school students as well.
I have a Master's degree in Literature and am beginning a Ph.D program in Literature this fall.
Teaching Composition I and II, we focus a lot on grammar. An exercise I do is give students an absurd sentence full of mistakes. Students get comfortable finding the obvious errors, then we discuss errors they may not recognize.
I have a Master's degree in English and am beginning a Ph.D in English this fall at Case Western Reserve University.
I read and edit through all student essay submissions, giving students clear reasons why edits are needed. I have taught Composition I and II for the University of Akron, Wayne College, Briarcliffe College, and the University of South Florida for a total of 4.5 years.
Working at Lindamood-Bell, I tutored students in reading skills.
