I am a preschool teacher for the Tiffin Community YMCA. I have been in this position since 2005. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2000 with an Associates of Arts Degree with a concentration in elementary education. I finished my bachelor's degree at Heidelberg College in 2004 in English with a concentration in writing. I also work with the YMCA Afterschool Programs as a substitute where homework help is part of the program. I am a mother of an 8 year old daughter who is entering the 3rd grade this upcoming school year.
I believe patience is the most valuable asset I can give your child. I understand grammar and writing skills do not come easy for everyone. Part of my tutoring for grammar, for example would be having a child repeat a sentence to see if it sounds like something they would hear in class from a teacher. Flashcards, sometimes home made are an excellent teaching tool. Not every child learns the same; some children learn visually by use of flash cards for spelling or grammar. Other children need to hear the way a word sounds before they understand the meaning or why it it spelled a certain way.
I hope this answers your questions you may have about me as a potential tutor for your child. Thank you for your consideration.
Amanda
